Bridesmaids "I'm not confident which end that came out of."

About a week ago my sister and I decided that it was time to go to the movies. We were both back from college and trying to find something to see that would be entertaining. We found Bridesmaids and saw that it had gotten generally good reviews and we decided to check it out. When I got to the theater I was worried because it was filled with people over 40. I was worried we made a huge mistake.

Bridesmaids is about bride-to-be Lillian's best friend and maid of honor Annie trying to control he falling apart life while trying to give Lillian a successful wedding while dealing with a crazy group of Bridesmaids. Annie must find out what it means to love someone and to find her passion in life.

Now while many people have tagged this as the "female Hangover" I will step up and say that this is nothing like the Hangover. In fact I would dare say that it is way better than the Hangover for lots of reasons. The main reason this story works is because of of the phenomenal cast. Kristen Wiig, who plays Annie, in her first lead role on the big screen is impressive and hilarious as the maid of honor. As I watched this movie I could feel her pain and struggle but at the same time it felt like a person we all know. Also we get to see her grow up and learn some deep life lessons that we all need to hear. Maya Randolph who plays the bride-to-be also has her shining moments of comedy and emotion and gives a nice insight into the roller coaster that is getting married.  Rose Byrne is perfect for the bitch who trys to take Annie's spot as maid of honor and throughout the film you really start to hate her. When you see her, you see that real life bitch you know that just has to be perfect about everything.

The surprise highlight of the is Melissa McCarthy as Megan who steals every single scene she is in. Whether its stealing puppies or trying to climb air marshalls this girls is crazy and hilarious. Every line is quotable and she really fit this character perfectly. One of her highlights is her bad reaction to Brazilian food but I don't want to ruin too much for you. With comedy she also gives one of the best tough love speeches that I have ever seen. I mean I took some of her shit to heart. McCarthy really makes this movie special and reason to watch it over and over again.

Another strong component of this film is that while it feels unique and somewhat original, it has something that we all can relate too. See this movie is more than just a wedding movie, its a movie about change and how we react to that change. Some of us don't like to change and will even stay in crappy situations if that means we don't have to change. There are also those who on the outside seem perfect and happy but in reality they have just as many problems as anyone else. Bridesmaids is a good reminder that change is not only going to happen but it is a good thing. Even if we have hit rock bottom, there is no where to go but up.

That's the biggest difference from this movie and something like the Hangover. While these one does have outrageous comedy it does have an emotional heart at its foundation. I would highly suggest this movie to anyone because it was a riot and even better to see it with others. If your in the mood for a good, long laugh then make sure to catch Bridesmaids before you miss it. 4 out of 5 stars.
