True Lies "You're Fired"

True Lies has always been a favorite movie of my parents ever since it came out. Whenever it is on they usually watch it and still enjoy it to this day. I also wanted to see it because it was a pre-1997 Cameron film which means it should be awesome. If you don't understand what that means here is an explanation: in 1997 James Cameron's Titanic came out and he hasn't done anything good since, and that includes Titanic. So anything before 1997 means Cameron gold. So let's see what is more than meets the eye with True Lies.

True Lies is about secret agent Harry Tasker (Arnold Schwarzenegger) who doubles as a husband and father to Helen (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Dana. Harry, while trying to fix his family relations, believes that his wife is cheating on him. As he tries to pull a prank to get back at her, he accidentally gets her caught up in his spy work and puts her and Dana in danger. Now Harry might fight against an fundamentalist Islamic group and stop their plans of nuclear proportions and save his family all at the same time.

This film is really just fun. I didn't expect it to be so much fun to tell the truth. But from beginning to end this is a pure joy ride. There is lots of action for fans to enjoy and Arnold, as always, is able to pull off the macho hero that kicks some serious ass. At the same time, there is loads and loads of comedy here. That is the part that really surprised me, I didn't to laugh as much. A lot of that is thanks to Jamie Lee Curtis who was cast perfectly. A lot of that also lies in a great script that works perfectly with the story.  There are a lot of great quotable lines and at the end there is a classic Arnold  K.O. finisher line that was really enjoyable for me.

I will have to hand it to Cameron for doing a great job at directing this flick. He didn't try to hold back or cut corners but was able to go all out and push some boundaries. The whole flight jet scene was impressive and I would love to see the behind scenes work for that. Also the bridge scene was pretty epic and believable. As expected, Cameron was able to use Arnold to his full potential for some awesome chase sequences, fight scenes, and all around bad assery.

Overall, for me there is not too much to say about this film. It is fun and worth to watch. It has great action, hilarious writing, and a cool experience. I will admit it is interesting to see this film in a post 9/11 world. It would be interesting to analyze the different takes on the film before and after 9/11. Still a fun film and if your bored go see it. It's not the greatest thing on film, but its fun. Originally gave it 4, but taking it down a notch for some bad lines and a little problems but nothing too bad. 3.5/5.
